Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema visited the Memorial of the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party on Wednesday 4 November 2026 in Shanghai, during his state visit to China, according to the Gabonese presidency. The congress opened at the site in July 1921.

The Gabonese presidency said the head of state viewed archives, testimonies and exhibitions devoted to China’s political, economic and social history. He also wrote a message in the memorial’s visitors’ book, drawing a parallel between China’s transformations and Gabon’s recent history.

The visit followed talks on processing Gabonese manganese and converting the China-Gabon partnership into investment. It forms part of Libreville’s ambitions to modernise infrastructure, industrialise and create jobs, which it has pursued since 30 August 2023, notably through the partnership with China focused on industrialisation.
