Four bodies of suspected migrants were discovered on Friday 6 November 2026 on the shore of Tébène 2, a village in the commune of Thiéppe, in Kébémer department, Senegal. A pirogue carrying people seeking to migrate illegally is believed to have capsized offshore from the locality, according to a source cited by Le Soleil.
Several survivors are believed to have fled after the incident, while the exact number of people aboard the pirogue remains unknown, according to the same source. The mayor of Thiéppe, Mouhamed Dia, called for greater resources for the Kébémer territorial gendarmerie brigade to combat clandestine departures, which he believes are increasing in the area.
The mayor also deplored the conditions in which young people seek to reach Europe. He said it was necessary to strengthen the capacity of forces responsible for combating illegal migration, according to Le Soleil.
The discovery comes two days after the Senegalese Navy rescued 221 migrants off Djiffère, on 4 November 2026.
