Twenty-two pupils at Sidi Bouzid pilot secondary school were hospitalised after collective food poisoning on the night of 6 to 7 November 2026. Samples were taken to determine the source of the poisoning, according to Béchir Saïdi, director of preventive health in Sidi Bouzid, quoted by the Tap agency.

Twenty-two pupils at Sidi Bouzid pilot secondary school were taken to the region’s university hospital after food poisoning on the night of Friday 6 to Saturday 7 November. All received the necessary treatment before returning home, while samples were taken to determine the source of the poisoning, according to Béchir Saïdi, director of preventive health at the regional health directorate, quoted by the Tap agency.

The incident follows several cases of food poisoning reported in Tunisian schools. In October 2023, 27 pupils at a boarding school in Meknassi were affected, followed by six pupils at a secondary school in Sidi Ali Ben Aoun in November of the same year. In January 2024, two boarding pupils were poisoned in Zriba after 60 kilograms of red meat unfit for consumption were discovered at Taher Haddad middle school, according to the National Food Safety Authority services.

On 27 February 2025, several pupils at the primary and middle schools in Cherifet, Soliman, were also poisoned after expired biscuits and juice were found near the schools. Nine children were transferred to Nabeul regional hospital for examinations and medical monitoring.
