William Ruto's government is considering mobilising administrative chiefs and their deputies at public gatherings to support his 2027 re-election campaign. The strategy marks a new phase in the Kenyan administration's efforts to back the president, according to The Standard.
Kenyan President William Ruto's government wants to mobilise local administration chiefs and assistant chiefs to lead grassroots campaigns at public gatherings in support of his re-election in 2027, the Kenyan daily The Standard reports. The ruling UDA party's executive leadership is making the mobilisation of chiefs, civil servants under the authority of the Interior Ministry, a central part of its campaign.
According to The Standard, the president's camp does not appear willing to respect the limits set by the Kenyan Constitution, which governs the political neutrality of the administration during election campaigns. The newspaper describes this approach as an escalation of William Ruto's campaign as he seeks a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
The campaign is unfolding as the Kenyan opposition promises a single candidate against Ruto in 2027, while the UDA has invited Kalonzo Musyoka to join the president, an overture that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua considers doomed to fail.
