Sudanese army retakes Ayal Bakhit in West Kordofan

The Sudanese army says it has retaken the strategic locality of Ayal Bakhit in West Kordofan state and shot down a long-range drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces. The advance comes as military operations resume in Kordofan, according to Sudan Tribune.

The Sudanese army announced on Saturday 7 November that it had retaken Ayal Bakhit, a locality in West Kordofan state, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), while also saying it had shot down a long-range RSF drone in the same state. The announcement was made by Mohamed Didan, spokesman for the special operations forces fighting alongside the Sudanese army, according to Sudan Tribune.

Ayal Bakhit is about 100 kilometres from Al-Khoy and was used by the RSF as a position from which to launch attacks against army sites in North Kordofan. Its recapture brings government forces closer to Al-Khoy, according to Sudan Tribune. Since the middle of the week, the Sudanese army and its allied forces have also carried out operations in Kordofan, after retaking several positions south and west of El Obeid in North Kordofan.

The offensive in the Kordofan region was launched by the army in June and has enabled it, according to Sudan Tribune, to retake several towns and supply routes used by the RSF since the war began in April 2023. It extends the operations that led to the retaking of positions around El Obeid on 5 November 2026 and the destruction of a large RSF gathering in Kordofan on 6 November 2026, according to titles published by Sudan Tribune.
