Ethiopia has ordered six Sudanese diplomats and consular officials to leave its territory within 48 hours and decided to permanently close Sudan’s consulate in Assosa, in the border region of Benishangul-Gumuz, Mali Actu reports.

The decision follows Sudanese accusations that Ethiopia was serving as a rear base for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a Sudanese paramilitary group, to carry out drone strikes. Sudanese presidential adviser Amjad Farid says 70 attacks were allegedly launched from Ethiopian territory between February and October, killing more than 400 civilians and targeting critical infrastructure.

Sudanese authorities have referred the accusations to the United Nations Security Council and the African Union. Addis Ababa, for its part, accuses Khartoum of supporting armed rebel groups active in Ethiopia’s border provinces, according to Mali Actu.

The measure comes the day after the reciprocal expulsion of Ethiopian and Sudanese diplomats, on 5 November 2026. It also follows Ethiopia’s expulsion of six Sudanese diplomats, announced on 4 November amid the accusations of rebel support.
