Several people were injured and campaign vehicles vandalised during a march in support of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso in Asaba, Delta State. Candidate Victor Ochei accuses the APC, while the party rejects the accusations, according to Vanguard.
Several people were injured on Saturday during a one-million-man march organised in Asaba, Delta State, by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) backing the presidential ambitions of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, according to Vanguard. Campaign vehicles were also vandalised.
The incident reportedly involved men suspected of being armed with sticks, knives and machetes. Victor Ochei, the NDC candidate for the Delta North senatorial district and former speaker of the Delta State Assembly, asked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to order an investigation and the arrest of those responsible. He accuses members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party, of being involved, an accusation the APC rejects as baseless and unsupported by evidence, Vanguard reports.
Ochei says more than 30 campaign buses were destroyed by suspected assailants. Favour Emerue, coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement and organiser of the march, said the rally was peaceful before the intervention of people suspected of having caused the violence, according to Vanguard.
