By the AFREEQUE newsroom, based on Sowetan
The results of South Africa's local elections are 99% known and the electoral commission is due to publish the final figures. Journalists from Arena Holdings are analysing the trends live from the results centre at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, according to Sowetan.
The results of South Africa's local elections are now 99% known, the daily Sowetan reports, as the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) centralises the last results slips at its results centre at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, near Johannesburg.
Journalists from the Arena Holdings press group are commenting live from the centre on the trends emerging municipality by municipality, and their analyses look at what these results mean for the running of municipalities. The final count comes after several days of counting and verification, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, where the IFP leads in 18 municipalities.
These elections saw the ANC lose support and several major cities, a trend already illustrated by the configuration of 110 councils without an absolute majority. This last day of compilation follows the dispute over the count lodged in KwaZulu-Natal, where 87 results remained to be checked.
