Malawi’s Electoral Commission saw its “Weaving the Web of Truth” campaign selected among 20 initiatives recognised by the United Nations Development Programme’s Atlas of Innovation in Public Communication. The selection rewards a multichannel campaign that used more than 9,450 audiovisual slots, according to Malawi24.

The “Weaving the Web of Truth” campaign by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) was selected among the 20 “Spotlight” case studies in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Atlas of Innovation in Public Communication, after 173 applications from 50 countries. The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) welcomed the recognition for its role in strengthening voter confidence.

The MEC says its campaign used radio, television, SMS, social media and community networks to disseminate verified electoral information in several languages. More than 9,450 radio and television slots were mobilised, while voter turnout rose from 64.8% in the 2020 early presidential election to 76.4% in the general elections of 16 September 2025.

Lewis Msiyadungu, national coordinator of the CCJP, said the recognition showed the value of cooperation among electoral stakeholders in preserving the credibility of elections. The MEC dedicated the recognition to its staff, civil society organisations, media and community partners that took part in the campaign.
