The MK Party has approached South Africa's electoral commission to contest the municipal results in eThekwini and call for an immediate audit. It is calling in particular for the final announcement to be suspended, disputed data to be independently reviewed and the affected results to be electronically frozen, according to IOL.
The MK Party, led by former president Jacob Zuma, has formally approached the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to request an audit of the disputed results of the local elections in eThekwini. Its acting secretary-general, Lindiwe Makhubu, says a system failure during the capture and transmission of results to the eThekwini electoral operations centre disrupted data flows and altered audit trails, according to IOL.
MK is asking the IEC to delay the final announcement and publication of the results until the alleged irregularities are resolved. It is also calling for the processing of the affected results to be suspended, an immediate audit, access to an independent forensic analysis and the electronic quarantine of the disputed data.
