A search ordered at Pretoria's Kgosi Mampuru II prison after a video showed inmates dancing led to the seizure of five phones, 194 Mandrax tablets, cannabis, illicit cigarettes and sharp objects. Disbarred advocate Malesela Teffo was among the inmates identified, according to South Africa's Department of Correctional Services cited by IOL.

A search at Pretoria's Kgosi Mampuru II prison led to the seizure of five mobile phones, three routers, a laptop, 194 Mandrax tablets, five packets of cannabis, 16 packets of illicit cigarettes and several sharp objects. The operation was ordered by Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale, national commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), after a video showing inmates dancing and listening to music inside the facility was circulated on social media, according to IOL citing DCS national spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.

Officers also recovered two bank cards, 11 chargers, three USB devices and two hacksaw blades. The inmates identified in the video and those found in possession of prohibited substances or objects will face internal disciplinary proceedings, Singabakho Nxumalo said.

The DCS is investigating the circumstances in which the device used to film the video and the other prohibited items were brought into the prison. The investigation will also determine whether correctional services officers were involved in bringing them in or were negligent, according to Singabakho Nxumalo.
