Newly elected or re-elected eThekwini municipal councillors are prioritising water supply, municipal billing, roads and infrastructure. Ward 71 councillor Ramona Valayatham says she wants to meet residents’ expectations after the local elections, according to IOL.

Newly elected or re-elected councillors from the South African Democratic Alliance (DA) in eThekwini have identified water supply, municipal billing, infrastructure, roads and public facilities as priorities. Ward 71 councillor Ramona Valayatham in particular described her mandate in Shallcross, Moorton and Crossmoor as a renewed responsibility towards residents, reports IOL.

In Ward 73, DA councillor Daniel Logan Mea, re-elected in the areas of Chatsworth CBD, Croftdene and Arena Park, said his party won 90% of the vote in his ward in 2026, compared with 81% in his 2023 by-election and 67.1% in 2021 under his predecessor. During his first 100 days, he wants in particular to tackle water shortages affecting Arena Park, Montford and part of Moorton, according to IOL.

These priorities extend concerns expressed during South Africa’s local elections, when water and electricity cuts were already among voters’ main concerns on 5 November.
