South Africa’s EFF secured 1.94% of the vote in eThekwini, but says it has stopped losing electoral support and won several wards, including wards 1 and 6. The party wants to use these victories to take part in municipal government and regain voters’ trust, according to its spokesperson Brian Blouse, quoted by IOL.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a South African opposition party, had secured 1.94% of the vote in eThekwini after more than 35% of ballots in the municipal elections had been counted on Thursday 5 November. Its spokesperson in the municipality, Brian Blouse, nevertheless said the party had stopped losing electoral support.

The EFF won several wards, including wards 1 and 6, according to Brian Blouse. The party wants to build on these elected representatives and on participation in municipal government to demonstrate its ability to provide public services and regain voters’ trust.

Brian Blouse acknowledged that some residents still doubted the EFF’s ability to turn its promises and activism into effective governance. He said the party had to earn voters’ trust, particularly by proving itself in the municipalities where it would take on responsibilities.
