The ANC won 52.54% of the vote in Ward 3 of Kamiesberg Municipality, its first announced seat in South Africa’s 2026 local elections. After more than 26,600 votes were counted, the party was provisionally ahead of the Democratic Alliance, according to SABC News and South Africa’s electoral commission.

The African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling party, won 52.54% of the vote in Ward 3 of the Kamiesberg Municipality, in the Northern Cape province, during the 2026 municipal elections. This is its first announced council seat in the election, according to SABC News.

With more than 26,600 votes counted, the ANC is also leading the national tally with 34.37%, ahead of the Democratic Alliance (DA) on 33.58% and the Freedom Front Plus on 8.79%. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said the results remained provisional and could change as other voting districts were counted.

The South African Communist Party (SACP), which is running separately from the ANC after breaking with its alliance partner, is provisionally in sixth place nationally with just over 32,000 votes. It is ahead of the United Democratic Movement, the uMkhonto weSizwe party and ActionSA, among others, SABC News reports.
