Angola has obtained associated observer state status in the Ibero-American Community, becoming the first member of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries to join the framework. The decision, formalised at the Madrid summit from 3 to 5 November, is expected to broaden cooperation between Lusophone and Ibero-American spheres, according to Folha 8.
Angola has obtained associated observer state status in the Ibero-American Community at the summit held in Madrid, the executive secretariat of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) announced. The formalisation took place on Tuesday, during the 30th meeting of the organisation, which brings together countries from Europe, Africa and Latin America.
Angola is the first CPLP member state to obtain this status, according to the Lusophone organisation. The CPLP believes that this membership could broaden cooperation between the Lusophone and Ibero-American spheres, particularly in political dialogue and the sharing of experience.
Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel said Angola’s entry would bring Africa, Latin America and Europe closer together. He added that Portugal had actively supported the move, after a meeting with his Angolan counterpart Téte António.
