South Sudan’s National Elections Commission has appointed the officials responsible for counting votes and their deputies in the country’s 10 states and three administrative areas. The appointments precede the general elections scheduled for December 2026, according to an order signed on 4 November by its chair, Gabriel Bol Deng, Radio Tamazuj reports.
Two Juba academics say South Sudan’s general elections planned for 22 December are unlikely because of administrative gaps, legal uncertainty and insecurity. Political scientist Abraham Kuol Nyuon mentions a possible two- to three-month delay, reports Radio Tamazuj.

Stephen Dhieu Dau won the SPLM primary with 120 votes to select its candidate for governor of Upper Nile State in the December 2026 elections. He was also declared the party’s regional chairperson, while Gabriel Isaac secured the deputy chairpersonship, according to Eye Radio.
