Djibouti and the European Union reaffirmed their strategic partnership in security and defence on Wednesday, during a meeting in Djibouti, according to the Djibouti Information Agency (ADI). Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, and the acting Minister of the Interior and Defence, Omar Abdi Said, received a delegation from the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC).
Led by Ambassador Lene Vensild, the PSC delegation brings together the permanent representatives of the European Union’s 27 member states and oversees the bloc’s common security and defence policy. Discussions covered security and military cooperation, regional and international challenges, and joint initiatives for peace and stability, ADI reports.
The meeting was held at the Djibouti Institute of Diplomatic Studies. Both sides stressed that the visit demonstrated the importance attached to their partnership, in a country located at the entrance to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, on a major maritime route, according to ADI.
