Discussions included strengthening cooperation between Djibouti’s Ports and Free Zones Authority and Somali ports, according to the Djibouti News Agency.

Abdoulkadir Mohamed Nour, president of Somalia’s House of the People, visited the Doraleh Container Terminal and the Djibouti International Free Trade Zone (DIFTZ) on Tuesday 3 November. He was accompanied by Dileita Mohamed Dileita, president of Djibouti’s National Assembly, and was received by Aboubaker Omar Hadi, president of the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA), reports the ADI.

At the Doraleh terminal, officials from the Doraleh Container Terminal Management Company (SGTD) presented the site’s infrastructure, equipment and operational capacity, as well as investments made in recent years. The delegation then visited the DIFTZ to discuss strengthening cooperation between the DPFZA and Somali ports, according to the ADI.

Djibouti has notably provided two tugboats, cargo-handling equipment and spare parts to the port of Mogadishu, where a Djiboutian technical team was deployed for two years. In Bossaso, the DPFZA carried out bathymetric surveys, improved navigational aids and provided a tugboat and a pusher craft, according to the ADI.

The visit follows the Somali parliament speaker’s visit to Djibouti, which began on 1 November, and his thanks to Djibouti on 2 November for its support for Somali port infrastructure.
