Severe thunderstorms: Level 4 warning for Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal

The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 4 yellow warning for severe thunderstorms in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, with a risk of flooding and power cuts. A Level 2 warning also covers the Wild Coast in Eastern Cape, where heavy rain is expected, according to IOL.

The South African Weather Service has also placed several provinces under a Level 2 yellow warning for thunderstorms that could cause localised flooding, property damage and disruptions to electricity supplies and communications. The warning covers parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gauteng, North West and Free State, according to IOL, citing the South African weather service.

On the Wild Coast of Eastern Cape, a Level 2 yellow warning also covers rainfall that could damage homes, roads and bridges. The eastern part of the province is expected to experience showers and widespread rain along the coast and adjacent inland areas, according to the South African Weather Service.

In Mpumalanga, showers and thunderstorms are expected to become widespread in the far south-east, while the Lowveld will experience high temperatures. Limpopo could experience extremely hot conditions in places, accompanied by isolated afternoon thunderstorms, according to South African weather forecasts.

The warning comes after KwaZulu-Natal was placed under watch for severe thunderstorms on 25 October. KwaZulu-Natal placed on alert for severe thunderstorms was then the subject of a weather warning in the province.
