Trump considers resuming war against Iran

Donald Trump said Washington would soon decide whether to resume military operations against Iran to continue destroying its nuclear programme. US Central Command is preparing for the possibility without having received new orders, according to Axios cited by Daily Post Nigeria.

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would soon have to decide whether to resume military operations against Iran. Asked at the White House, he raised the possibility of continuing strikes to complete the destruction of Iran’s nuclear programme, saying the decision would be known soon.

Trump said he had brought together his national security advisers before stating that the United States had already achieved everything it wanted to control in Iran. According to Axios, US Central Command (CENTCOM) is preparing for a possible full resumption of military operations, without having yet received new orders from Washington.

Mediators are meanwhile travelling to Tehran in an effort to advance negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. Trump himself has recently spoken of possible progress in the talks.

The decision comes after the Republican electoral defeat, which Vice-President J. D. Vance attributed to the war in Iran in remarks reported on 4 November. J. D. Vance attributes Republican defeat to Iran war.
