Trump calls US midterm elections ‘rigged’

By , based on Africanews

Donald Trump calls the US midterm elections lost by Republicans ‘rigged’, notably challenging the Senate vote in Alaska. The statement comes after projections gave Democrats at least 250 House seats and 54 senators, according to US media cited by Africanews.

Donald Trump on Thursday called the midterm elections won by Democrats ‘rigged’, reversing his Tuesday statement that he would accept the election verdict. The US president particularly challenged the result of the Senate vote in Alaska, according to Africanews.

US media projections give Democrats at least 250 seats in the House of Representatives and at least 54 of the Senate’s 100 seats. Several Republican officials attribute part of the defeat to Trump, which he disputes, while Vice-President JD Vance says the war in Iran is responsible for the Republican decline, Africanews reports.

Trump’s challenge comes after his public acceptance of the Republican defeat on 4 November. Trump accepts Republican defeat in US midterms and J. D. Vance attributes defeat to war in Iran.
