Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf mocked US Vice-President J. D. Vance, who attributed the Republican defeat in the midterm elections to the war in Iran. Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with Washington, posted his criticism on X, reports Egypt Independent.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf mocked US Vice-President J. D. Vance on Thursday after Republicans lost the US midterm elections. Ghalibaf wrote on X that J. D. Vance displayed the “energy of a losing gambler” and that he “can’t leave the table”, reports Egypt Independent.

The Iranian leader also accused the US vice-president of preparing a new phase of the war in Iran under Donald Trump’s authority. J. D. Vance had said on Wednesday that “the reason we lost is the war”, while Donald Trump had also attributed part of the Republican defeat to the conflict.

The reaction comes after J. D. Vance’s statements on the Republican defeat on 4 November, and Ghalibaf’s comments on the US vote against the war, published on 5 November. Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf is taking part in negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at ending the war.
