Iran’s negotiator in talks with Washington says American voters said no to war after the Republican defeat in the midterm elections. Iran’s Parliament president, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, repeated this message while warning Washington, according to the BBC.
Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with the United States believes Americans said “no to war” after Donald Trump’s Republican Party was defeated in the midterm elections, according to the BBC. The president of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf, supported this message and warned Washington that any rejection of the popular will would result in an Iranian response.
Donald Trump acknowledged that the Republican results were partly linked to the war and rising petrol prices, while saying he did not regret the joint attack carried out with Israel against Iran in February. The US president also said the conflict would end “when I decide” and threatened a resumption of fighting if no agreement was reached with Tehran.
This position comes after statements by the president of Iran’s Parliament, published on 4 November, opposing a new war with Washington. It also follows Trump’s remarks on 4 November attributing the Republican defeat to the war in Iran, amid negotiations between the two countries.
