The United Democratic Movement is challenging the recount of votes in several wards of Buffalo City Metro with South Africa's electoral commission. The party says it wants to ensure the accuracy of the final results and says it rules out any coalition with the ANC, according to SABC News.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM), a South African political party, has lodged a complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over the recounting of votes at several polling stations in Buffalo City Metro, in the Eastern Cape province. The party is challenging these recounts after winning seats in Buffalo City Metro and the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality, SABC News reports.
UDM Deputy President Nqabayomzi Kwankwa said the party wanted to ensure that the final results recorded corresponded to the votes cast. He accused recounts requested after narrow UDM victories of subsequently favouring other candidates, according to SABC News.
The UDM also says it is willing to discuss municipal coalitions with other parties, but rules out the African National Congress (ANC), South Africa's ruling party. Nqabayomzi Kwankwa said preliminary and informal discussions were under way with other parties, SABC News reports.
