Malawian opposition leader Simplex Chithyola-Banda believes tribalism, regionalism and political loyalty are holding back the country's development. In a Facebook post, he also deplores the frequent abandonment of previous governments' projects, according to Nyasa Times.

Malawian opposition leader Simplex Chithyola-Banda accuses tribalism, regionalism and political divisions of holding back Malawi's development. In a Facebook post, the former Finance Minister said officials prioritise regional origin, political affiliation, religious denomination or family ties over competence, Nyasa Times reports.

According to Simplex Chithyola-Banda, successive governments often abandon projects launched by their predecessors because they are associated with political opponents. This practice wastes resources and time, while preventing the country from making sustainable progress more than 60 years after independence.

The leader of the Malawi Congress Party calls on political officials and the public to set aside regional, ethnic and partisan affiliations. He believes appointments, access to opportunities and development priorities should be based on merit, qualifications and abilities, according to Nyasa Times.
