South African video creator Nkululeko Maxwell Makhanya apologised to General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, commissioner of the KwaZulu-Natal police, after being granted bail of 7,000 rand on Monday at Durban Magistrate’s Court. He faces charges of crimen injuria, an offence relating to an infringement of dignity, and incitement to violence, according to IOL.
Arrested on Sunday at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu during an election rally for the MK party, Makhanya is accused of insulting the commissioner. The court prohibited him from inciting violence or encouraging attacks on police officers, their families or public officials.
After leaving court, the video creator also apologised to the South African public. He said that people with whom he had been in conflict on TikTok had circulated the video that led to his arrest, despite his attempts to prevent it from being shared, IOL reported.
