The Consumers Association of Malawi has approached the communications regulator over dropped calls, slow connections and mobile money payment delays at Airtel Malawi and TNM. It is calling for the publication of operator performance, independent network tests and sanctions for shortcomings, according to Nyasa Times.

The Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) has filed a complaint with the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) against Airtel Malawi and TNM, alleging dropped calls, slow internet connections and delays in mobile money transfers, Nyasa Times reports.

CAMA says unexplained data losses and transaction delays on Mo626, Airtel Money and Mpamba are causing financial harm to users. The association believes these problems could violate the Communications Act and the service quality standards applicable to operators.

It is asking MACRA to publish network performance results, conduct independent field tests and impose sanctions in the event of violations. The regulator had already opened investigations into the rapid disappearance of mobile data and the depletion of mobile data bundles.
