The Keur Massar Research Brigade intercepted 142 people attempting to reach Spain by pirogue and seized 3,760 litres of fuel, as well as an engine. Several candidates, some of whom had burns, were evacuated to health facilities, according to Dakaractu.

The pirogue intercepted on 6 November in Keur Massar was carrying 142 candidates for irregular emigration to Spain, including 40 Senegalese and 93 Gambians, according to the National Gendarmerie. The group also included one national of Guinea-Bissau, two Guineans and two Nigerians, as well as two infants and two underage children.

Security forces seized a pirogue engine and containers holding a total of 3,760 litres of fuel. Several candidates, some of whom had suffered burns, received first aid from firefighters before being evacuated to health facilities, according to the National Gendarmerie.

The operation is part of the security measures deployed for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. It comes the day after four bodies of presumed migrants were discovered in Tébène 2 and four people died after a pirogue ran aground, two cases published on 6 November.
