The Nigerian Army has rescued two young women kidnapped in Zamfara State, in north-west Nigeria, during clearance operations in the Bukkuyum and Anka local government areas. The victims, Ikilima Sani, 20, and Shamsiyya Aliyu, 18, were found in the Gando Forest corridor, according to the Nigerian Army.
The operation was led by Colonel J. Umaru, acting commander of 1 Brigade, around the Gizaza axis and Gando Forest. The soldiers advanced through several communities, including Guruso, Nassarawa, Barayazaki, Masama Mudi, Tunganyara and Gwashi, pushing the armed men to flee their positions, according to the army.
The army says it is maintaining patrols on transport routes and corridors used by criminal groups in Zamfara State. The operation comes after several hostage rescues by Nigerian forces, including three women in Plateau State on 7 November, Daily Post reported.
