The Niger State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA) plans an agricultural programme for about 3,700 young people in the communities of Wushishi, Lavun and Mokwa, where land has been allocated to Nigerian group Dangote for agricultural activities, according to Leadership. The scheme is expected to focus in particular on rice and sugarcane production under a contract farming system.
NCCIMA president Suleiman Liman asked the Nigerian commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Saidu Shuaibu Kaboji, for a letter of support to facilitate discussions with the Dangote Group, Leadership reports. The chamber says it has already presented its proposals to the group, which asked it for separate submissions covering three to five areas of cooperation, including the agricultural programme and support for a business school.
Saidu Shuaibu Kaboji assured NCCIMA of his ministry's support and said he would submit the proposed agricultural programme to Niger State governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for consideration, according to Leadership.
