The Bank of Ghana has created an award recognising excellence in economic and financial journalism, including training and opportunities to attend international meetings. The scheme was announced on 7 November 2026 by Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama at the 30th Ghana Journalists Association awards.

The award will be presented as part of the Ghana Journalists Association awards and will give the winner the opportunity to attend the spring or annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, along with a laptop and a one-year internet subscription, Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama announced on 7 November in Accra.

The scheme also provides training scholarships and professional exchanges with institutions such as the Thomson Foundation, the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Bloomberg and Reuters, according to the Bank of Ghana. Opportunities for local training and higher education in media and communications are also planned.

Johnson Pandit Asiama said the Bank of Ghana wanted to strengthen the skills of journalists covering monetary policy, inflation, financial reforms, exchange rates and digital financial innovations. He also stressed that public understanding of central bank policies was key to their effectiveness.
