Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has called for a swift investigation into sexual abuse allegations involving a senior high school student and stronger measures against impunity in schools. He addressed Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu on 2 November in Accra during an announcement linked to the GJA awards, 3News reports.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), called on 2 November 2026 for a swift investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a female student at a senior high school in Obuasi. He called on Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to address concerns about accountability in the education sector, 3News reports.

The headmaster implicated, Zakaria Abdulai, has been suspended and resigned from his political positions, according to Dwumfour. The GJA president said these measures were not enough and called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party with which Abdulai was affiliated, to apply its disciplinary code.

Dwumfour also called for a response to the violence filmed at Techiman Senior High School, where two teachers assaulted a 17-year-old pupil. He called on the Education Minister to ensure that the case was dealt with. A video of the assault was reported in Techiman, Ghana.
