Children, older people and workers exposed to the sun should take extra precautions as temperatures rise, 3News reports.
People with chronic illnesses in Ghana should take extra precautions amid high temperatures affecting several parts of the country. Prolonged exposure to intense heat can worsen their condition and increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and other complications, public health specialist Frank Duodo warned, as quoted by 3News on Monday.
The doctor recommends staying in cool places, drinking enough fluids, wearing light clothing and limiting direct exposure to the sun. He also advises monitoring the colour of urine, which can indicate dehydration, and notes that children, older people and outdoor workers are particularly at risk.
The warning follows one from the International Labour Organization about the effects of heat on millions of jobs in six countries, published on 31 October in a report on heat and employment.
