Africa World Airlines denies that an aircraft suffered a technical fault or that a passenger evacuation took place at Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi. The airline said the aircraft was conducting a demonstration flight with its crew and safety inspectors, according to a statement published on 7 November.

Africa World Airlines (AWA), a Ghanaian airline, denied on Saturday 7 November 2026 that one of its aircraft had suffered a technical fault followed by a passenger evacuation at Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi. The airline said the aircraft seen on the tarmac was conducting a demonstration flight without commercial passengers, according to 3News.

The aircraft is an Embraer E190, on which AWA began mandatory demonstration flights on Thursday 5 November under the supervision of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Ghana's civil aviation authority. Only crew and safety inspectors assigned by the GCAA were on board, according to the airline cited by 3News.

These flights are required by GCAA regulations when an airline introduces a new type of aircraft into its fleet, in order to verify its operational readiness and compliance with safety rules before the launch of regular commercial services. AWA asked travellers and the media to check its official communications before relaying information published on social media, according to 3News.
