Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama plans to invest more than $9 billion in the sectors likely to create the most jobs between 2027 and 2030, as part of his economic policy called "New Economy". He presented the programme on Saturday 7 November, at the 2026 Hogbetsotso festival, according to the Ghanaian outlet MyJoyOnline.
The Volta Region is expected to benefit particularly from these investments, notably in the textile, garment, commercial agriculture, hospitality and tourism sectors. John Dramani Mahama believes these activities can boost the local economy and multiply job opportunities. The programme is to be detailed in the 2027 national budget, which Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson will present to Parliament on Thursday 12 November.
The Ghanaian president also mentioned plans to build health facilities, classrooms and secondary roads in several districts. The works are financed by the District Assemblies Common Fund, a public fund intended for local government development. According to Mahama, a directive issued shortly after he came to power requires the direct transfer of at least 80% of the fund's resources to district administrations to finance their development projects.
