Tunisian Minister of Equipment and Housing Salah Zouari announced the start of around 700 homes under the rent-to-own housing programme. The scheme aims to build 1,000 homes a year between 2026 and 2030, with work launched in several governorates, according to La Presse de Tunisie.

Tunisia has launched work on around 700 homes under its rent-to-own housing programme, Equipment and Housing Minister Salah Zouari announced on Saturday 7 November. The programme aims to build 1,000 homes a year between 2026 and 2030, according to La Presse de Tunisie.

The minister said several administrative and regulatory procedures had been completed, including the signing of agreements between the ministry, the National Real Estate Company of Tunisia (SNIT) and stakeholders, as well as coordination with municipalities. The appointment of companies responsible for the work has also begun in several governorates, according to Salah Zouari.

The rent-to-own housing programme was adopted as part of the 2026 budget and is included in the 2026-2030 Development Plan. The government also plans rehabilitation and urban renewal programmes, a social housing scheme and the development of land for construction, reports La Presse de Tunisie.

Payment appropriations for housing amount to around 383 million dinars under a third programme whose overall appropriations total nearly 420 million dinars, Salah Zouari said during a hearing session at the Assembly of People's Representatives on his ministry’s 2027 budget.
