Tunisian musician, composer and video artist Khalil Hentati presented “Tuqus”, an immersive creation combining electronic music, documentary images and Mediterranean rituals, on Wednesday evening as part of Jaou Tunis. The performance explores practices and memories from Greece, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Italy and Tunisia, reports La Presse de Tunisie.
The title “Tuqus”, meaning “rituals” in Arabic, extends Khalil Hentati’s exploration of popular and ritual music, already begun with “Aïchoucha”. On stage, sounds and images are controlled from a console, while screens show faces, ceremonies and fragments of everyday life. The traditions are transformed in an electronic composition that avoids reducing them to a folkloric representation, according to the Tunisian newspaper.
