Seven passengers were rescued after a boat travelling between Yenagoa and Akassa, in Bayelsa State, was involved in an accident, while a police officer remains missing. Search operations continued after the rescue, according to Nigerian Navy Director of Information Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.

The Nigerian Navy rescued seven passengers after a boat travelling between Yenagoa and Akassa was involved in an accident in the waters off Abedigbene, in Bayelsa State. The survivors included Bayelsa Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment Ebieri Jones, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and five other passengers, according to the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.

An eighth passenger, identified as a police officer, remained missing while searches continued. The seven survivors received first aid aboard a navy boat and no visible injuries were found during initial assessments, before they were transferred to Yenagoa on 6 November to reunite with their families, according to Captain Folorunsho.

In neighbouring Rivers State, the Bonny naval base also deactivated three illegal refining sites in Awokiri, where its teams discovered 16 pits, nine of them containing about 115,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. The operation also led to the recovery of about 117,000 litres of stolen crude oil, according to the Nigerian Navy.
