Porto wants to extend Nigerian Zaidu Sanusi before January

Porto are seeking to extend Nigerian defender Zaidu Sanusi’s contract before the end of December, while Leeds United want to sign him as early as January. The 29-year-old wants to remain in Portugal, according to people close to him cited by Footy-Africa, while Saudi and Qatari clubs are also monitoring his situation.

FC Porto want to reach an agreement with Nigerian defender Zaidu Sanusi before the end of December to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season. The Portuguese club’s president, André Villas-Boas, wants to complete the renewal before the player enters the final six months of his contract, according to A Bola, cited by Punch.

Sanusi, 29, has played in 10 of FC Porto’s 16 matches this season, including eight starts, despite missing nearly two months through injury. He is considered important by coach Francesco Farioli, Punch reports.

Leeds United, seventh in the Premier League under Daniel Farke, want to sign Sanusi as early as January to get ahead of the other contenders for a free transfer next summer, according to Football Insider. Clubs from Saudi Arabia and Qatar are also interested.

Aliyu Ibrahim, who is close to the player, says Sanusi wants to remain in Portugal, where he has played for nearly ten years and speaks fluent Portuguese. The defender joined Porto in 2020 from Santa Clara and has won two Portuguese league titles with the club, according to Punch.
