These assets, essential to the southern interconnected grid, pass under public control after negotiations linked in particular to Eneo's payment delays, according to Actu Cameroun.
The Cameroonian State's purchase of the Kribi and Dibamba thermal power plants comes after several months of negotiations with Globeleq, a British independent power producer, amid financial disputes. Globeleq held the majority of shares in KPDC, the company operating the Kribi gas plant, and in DPDC, the company operating the Dibamba heavy fuel oil plant, according to Actu Cameroun.
The tensions were notably linked to payment delays by Eneo, the national electricity distributor, which had left Globeleq with hundreds of billions of CFA francs in receivables, according to Actu Cameroun. The State now intends to secure electricity production directly, while the management of the two plants will have to be reorganised to preserve their technical efficiency and finance their extensions.
