Dan Mackenzie says that his refusal, as a child, to follow the religious teachings of his father Paul Mackenzie kept him away from the activities linked to Shakahola. His testimony comes after the preacher was sentenced to 200 years in prison for 191 murders, according to Citizen Digital.

Dan Mackenzie, son of the Kenyan preacher Paul Mackenzie, says that his refusal to attend church as a child kept him from taking part in religious activities and trips to Shakahola. He says he thus escaped the members of the Good News International Church who died in the Shakahola massacre, according to Citizen Digital.

Residents of Furunzi, in Kilifi County, where Paul Mackenzie lived before founding the Good News International Church in 2017, welcomed the preacher's conviction and the work of Judge Diana Mochache. In Machakos, however, Mackenzie's relatives continue to maintain his innocence, Citizen Digital reports.

Dan's testimony comes after Paul Mackenzie was sentenced to 200 years in prison for 191 murders, announced on 6 November. The trial of Paul Mackenzie concerned the deaths linked to the Shakahola massacre.
