Armed men tried to set fire to Médecins Sans Frontières' Ebola treatment centre in Beni, North Kivu, using gunfire and petrol bottles found at the scene. Congolese police are investigating the suspected attackers after the death of a woman who tested positive for Ebola, according to Nasson Murara.

Armed men tried to set fire during the night from Friday to Saturday 7 November 2026 to the Ebola Treatment Centre (CTE) run by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Beni, in North Kivu province. Security forces intervened after gunshots were heard and prevented the attack, according to Nasson Murara, a communicator for the Congolese national police in Beni.

Police found bottles filled with petrol at the scene that had not exploded and recovered them for the investigation. According to Nasson Murara, the attack may be linked to the death, on the same Friday, of a woman who tested positive for Ebola and was the wife of a man claiming to be a Muzalendo: members of his group allegedly tried to forcibly retrieve the body before the attack on the CTE.

Beni police said the identity of the attackers remains to be established and that investigations are continuing. It called on the population not to target healthcare workers or facilities receiving Ebola patients.

The attack comes as Ebola continues to cause deaths in Beni, following the death of a nurse in Beni, announced on 7 November.
