Colonel Emmanuel Libandi, the risk communication focal point within the FARDC, called on troops in Bunia to strictly comply with Ebola prevention measures. The awareness campaign aims to prevent complacency as soldiers are exposed through their missions and contact with the population, according to Actualite.cd.

Colonel Emmanuel Libandi, CREC focal point within the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), called on troops deployed in Bunia to strictly comply with Ebola prevention measures. He stressed the risk of complacency in applying them during an awareness session, according to Actualité.cd.

The soldiers are particularly exposed because of their operational missions and daily contact with the population, according to Emmanuel Libandi. CREC therefore intends to strengthen their participation in the response and protect both the soldiers and surrounding communities.

The awareness campaign comes after a toll of more than 5,000 Ebola-related deaths in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was announced on 1 November. It also comes as the last Ebola patient cured in Kayna had been announced as part of the response to the outbreak.
