Djibouti’s Minister of Muslim Affairs, Moumin Hassan Barreh, says the factors contributing to repeated fires at Ambouli cemetery have been eliminated after a major cleaning and security operation. The intervention notably addressed vegetation and occupation of the site, according to ADI.
Djibouti’s Ministry of Muslim Affairs and Waqf Properties has completed a cleaning and security operation at Ambouli cemetery after several fires in recent weeks, Minister Moumin Hassan Barreh said on Thursday 5 November on Djibouti Radio and Television (RTD). He said his department had eliminated factors that could have contributed to the repeated fires, according to ADI.
The operation notably involved removing dense vegetation that could help the fire spread and moving homeless people who had occupied the site away, Moumin Hassan Barreh explained. The cemetery covers more than 700,000 square metres and stretches from Ambouli’s District 7 to District 7 bis, via Djebel, according to the minister.
The Ministry of the Interior mobilised its services to support the operation carried out by the Waqf Properties department, Moumin Hassan Barreh said. The minister called on residents to cooperate with the public authorities to maintain the cleanliness and security of Ambouli cemetery, according to ADI.
