People close to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma say Rochas Okorocha never took part in the APC primary for the Imo West senatorial seat. The challenge follows a ruling by a federal court in Abuja that declared him the winner, Vanguard reports.
The deputy chief of staff to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has challenged former governor Rochas Okorocha’s participation in the APC primary for the Imo West senatorial seat, which the Federal High Court in Abuja declared Okorocha had won, according to Vanguard.
Chief Enyinna Onuegbu said on Arise News on Friday evening that Okorocha had not attended any meeting of party members, consultation with delegates or stage of the primary in Imo State. He also argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC committee responsible for the election had rejected as forged the documents the former governor submitted to the court, Vanguard reports.
The lawyer said the discrepancy between the documents submitted by the two camps should have been resolved by hearing and cross-examining witnesses. He cited Nigerian Supreme Court case law on allegations of forgery, according to the same outlet.
The challenge comes after court rulings on 29 October declaring Okorocha the senatorial candidate in Imo State and replacing Uzodimma with Okorocha in Imo.
