Nigerien journalist Moussa Kaka remains detained without family access

Two months after his disappearance in Niamey, Nigerien journalist Moussa Kaka remains detained and has been unable to meet either his family or his lawyer. Human rights and journalists' organisations are renewing calls for his release, RFI reports.

Two months after Nigerien journalist Moussa Kaka disappeared, his family and lawyer have still been unable to visit him, RFI reports. The journalist is being detained and is alive, according to what Niger's justice minister told Reporters Without Borders in early October.

Moussa Kaka left the offices of his media outlet in Niamey on 31 August to return home, but never arrived. Human rights organisations and journalists are renewing their calls for his release.

These calls follow requests for an investigation made by a journalists' association and then by Human Rights Watch, which denounced his enforced disappearance. The journalist's family said they had received no further news since 31 August, in an appeal published on 22 September.
