Zimbabwe’s High Court has rejected the appeal of Clever Mutero, a 63-year-old former teacher sentenced for raping a 13-year-old pupil, and upheld his 18-year prison sentence, reports the Daily News. Mutero was convicted of two counts of rape by the Kwekwe Regional Magistrates Court, which imposed 18 years’ imprisonment for each count, with the sentences running concurrently.
The appeal concerned the conviction and sentence handed down by the regional court. The High Court’s decision therefore maintains the total prison term of 18 years.
The decision comes after the confirmation, on 2 October, of a 20-year prison sentence imposed on another Zimbabwean teacher convicted of rape, in a separate case.
