Zimbabwe’s government is mobilising financial and material resources to limit the effects of an El Niño-related drought during the 2026-2027 agricultural season. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube warned Parliament that agriculture could suffer setbacks in 2027, reports the Daily News.

The Zimbabwean government has begun mobilising financial and material resources to cushion the effects of a potential El Niño-related drought during the 2026-2027 agricultural season, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube told Parliament in Bulawayo, according to the Daily News.

Mthuli Ncube warned that the agricultural sector could suffer setbacks in 2027. He was speaking at the parliamentary budget preparation seminar held in Bulawayo the previous day.

The announced mobilisation comes as Zimbabwe also prepares a scheme targeting 16 million plots against drought, an objective presented on 28 October. The city of Bulawayo had previously strengthened its preparations for a super El Niño on 20 October.
