Tshisekedi says Kabila accused Rwandans of killing his father

Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi says Joseph Kabila told him that Rwandans took part in the assassination of his father, Laurent-Désiré Kabila, according to reports by Le Potentiel and Mediacongo. Mediacongo says the disclosure was made during the FCC-CACH coalition and that Kabila also mentioned the complicity of some Lebanese people. Tshisekedi recounted the remarks on 30 October in Moscow, at a meeting with the Congolese diaspora.
Mediacongo says Joseph Kabila is alleged to have shared these remarks with Félix Tshisekedi during the FCC-CACH political coalition. According to Tshisekedi’s account, Kabila told him that Rwandans had killed his father in collusion with some Lebanese people.
In Moscow, Tshisekedi also drew a comparison between the AFDL and the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), which he presents as an extension of the AFC/M23 and associates with Joseph Kabila. He says these movements are seeking to put the DRC back under Rwanda’s influence. The president also argued that Laurent-Désiré Kabila had been deceived by his allies and had failed to free himself from their influence.
Mediacongo reports that Tshisekedi called Joseph Kabila a “dog” put at the head of the country by his father’s former allies, a phrase he says he uses to describe the dependence he attributes to him. The outlet places the remarks in the context of a security crisis in eastern DRC and tensions between the government and the former regime. It also mentions international partners’ calls for inclusive national dialogue, while the parties disagree over its organisation, mediation and agenda.
