DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi said he had not received explanations about items seized during searches in Belgium at the homes of people close to him. He described the operations as a political manoeuvre on 30 October before Congolese people in Moscow, Actualité.cd reports.
DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi said he was waiting for details of items seized during searches carried out in Belgium at the homes of members of his entourage. He spoke on Friday 30 October in Moscow to the Congolese community, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit, according to Actualité.cd.
Félix Tshisekedi attributed the searches to a manoeuvre by his political opponents, including his predecessor Joseph Kabila and opposition figure Moïse Katumbi. He also accused a Belgian lawyer whom he described as close to Rwanda of taking part in the effort, which he said was aimed at targeting his family and damaging his image.
The head of state said the accusations also concerned his management of public finances and his presidential travel. He maintained that the Central Bank of Congo had already rejected criticism of the cost of these trips, presenting them as expenditure provided for in the budget.
The statements came after the Belgian searches targeting his entourage, announced on 16 October, and the accusation made on 29 October that Joseph Kabila was a Rwandan conduit for the rebellion.
